Gratification

"Gratification lies in the process, not the results."

I may be the youngest in my department but I'm taking my work with stride. I never believe in complaining that work is stressful because we'll nuture under stress. It's the right mentality and approach that will let us tackle stress. I'm learning a lot of things everyday and work keeps me occupied till I knock off. Though my sleeping hours have been shortened to an average of 6.5 hours day and my weekends are occupied with my tuition sideline, I'm still a happy person. I haven't been catching up with my close friends much but at least I'm enjoying company of new aquaintances.

Life now has taught me never to look back because it'll weigh me down. I was a sinking ship but someone taught me life is never about holding on to excess baggage. I'm looking forward and a casual talk with a new found aquaintance at his restaurant recently taught me one important lesson. No matter what happens, always have an aim in life. Even if success might not be there, at least work on where the problem lie and reaim. True, everybody's different and has different approaches to be successful in life but always take anything as an opportunity to learn. I learned an important lesson from him and he offered a valuable advice. Still, I've have to be cautious and explore other options first before settling on it.

I just started out in this world and the most important thing to manage my independance well. I only see my life's success when I'm able to manage independently my well being in terms of wealth and health. This is rather a big screw up because I don't believe I'm financially stable and I'm healthy. I'm not leaving things as it is and am slowly working on it. I'm regularly heading for accupuncture sessions and now planning my schedule so I'm able to resume my gym sessions (which will probably take effect in Jan). I'm also slowing down on my "oxygen" intake because there are many concerned people out there and letting them taking in 2nd hand "oxygen" is not fair to them. Yes, "oxygenation" allows me to detach myself from the reality but I found another alternative - volunteerism.

I must say my life is heading for a change. A friend was telling me, "It's work that's making you change, not the people." I cannot agree totally. I think I'm trying to fit into the whole community because I was a misfit, the queer one that keeps thinking everyone is scrutinising me because I'm not like them. I used to voice out a lot, which is not necessarily bad but I realised one important thing. There are two types of people, one who talks when the need arises and one who talks even on the most inconsequential stuffs. I'm the latter so I'm improving to be the former.

Apart from these, I'm doing volunteering work. I've been active for outings with Down Syndrome adults and I learned a lot. The dedication and patience in caring actually do need require a lot of my time. Just like recently, I went on a Pulua Ubin trip with them and I see it as time well spent. Sometimes, life is not being about self centred which I was in the past. Though I still like having some moments with myself but I'm contented just forking out a few hours in a week. From next month onwards, I decided to join in the organising panel to improve on leadership skills which I'm certain it'll help me out in my career.

I'm a part time vegetarian now, consuming meat only at home and sometimes during lunch. My breakfast, which is the most important meal of the day consists of vegetable products. I'm not going to a social bummer, I'm going to lead a more fulfiling life. Whatever that have been wasted cannot be recovered, I'm not going to continue put my life to waste, there's a lot more out there for me to achieve.
