What A Difference 2% Makes

I never realised I had paid 7% in GST for my Sakae dinner with my girlfriend. Anyway, while we were having our dinner, the next table was engaged in a conversation about how much government payouts they've gotten.
I'm just wondering why is everybody comparing the payouts? I mean majority of the people would fall into either the $200 or $300 range. Unless you're an elderly, you'd probably receive more.
I'm not complaining but how much can $300 help in the increase in GST. An increase in 2%, I don't think it's going to affect me much unless I'm buying really costly items. For instance, I don't shop regularly. Even if I splurge $100 on a bag or shoes, I'm only forking out $2 more. We should see things from the point that we're only paying 2% more. Afterall we've been paying 5% and eventually no one's complaning. What's another 2% more?
Even if I'm spending in restaurants, the new 2% increase will still be ultimately be divided aound friends when we go dutch. On top of that, shouldn't some restaurants scrape off their 1% cess if they're charging us 7% on GST. I'm always not in the favor of the 1% cess because it's really ridiculous to fork out a small fraction of money to pay for nothing. I neverstood the purpose of 1% cess. Is it for the receipts?
Yes, the service charge too. We pay service charge do the service chage really go to the waiters/ waitresses. I had a satisfying meal but I don't know why I'm complaining now. Seriously I also don't know how long can I last with that $300 given to me.
I'm not a charitable person so don't expect it to head to some organisation. Like last year's progress package, I think I've finished using it. Money is supposed to be spent.
I find fulfilment when money is being spent on myself.
